Block of the Month Quilt.....nearing completion

Here is the quilt that I started working on back in Jan. 2009. After lots of things happening to keep me from being able to continue working on it or taking the class I put it away for a while. Then, 2011 came and I decided I am going to make time to finish this quilt. I signed back up for the class and am getting closer to being done. I hope to have the top completed by Dec. 17 which is the date of our last block of the month class.  This is only the first 3 rows of the quilt. I have 2 more rows then 2 borders to go on to complete it. :)  I really like it. I can't wait to get it finished.

Oct. 2011 Doll Quilt Swap

Doll Quilt Front

The pictures aren't the greatest. They were taken with my cellphone. I signed up for a swap for Oct. to do a doll quilt swap. Here is what I came up with. These were 2 things that someone had rehomed to me while cleaning out their sewing room. I thought they would be cute as a doll quilt. I think it turned out pretty good. At least the items have been repurposed and will have a new home. :)  This little doll quilt is taking a journey from Kentucky all the way to Bakersfield, California.  I hope to put it in the mail tomorrow. I sure hope she likes it.

Happy Thanksgiving. Here's what I am cooking....

Hoping you all have a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. :)

My dear grandmother is in the hospital so my Mom has been there with her. My Dad has decided to cook the Ham and Turkey and some other things for our meal. I will be making the mashed potatoes, the potato salad, dressed eggs, oreo balls and baked beans. I wanted to share the recipes with you for the beans and the oreo balls just in case you've not tried either. I know there are other recipes out there for both of them. Check and see if the ingredients don't surprise you. ;0)

My All Time Favorite Baked Beans:

2 cans pork n beans (soup can size)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup catsup
1/2 cup Coca Cola
1 small onion, diced
2 tsp. dry mustard
2 strips bacon, cut into 1 in. pieces

Mix the beans, brown sugar, catsup, Coca Cola, onion and dry mustard and place in a casserole dish. Dot with the bacon. Bake at 300 for 1-1/2 to 2 hrs.

About This Recipe

"This is pretty much the easiest dessert you can ever make!"

Ingredients

    • 18 ounces Oreo Double Stuff cookies
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 (12 ounce) chocolate candy bars
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • water, if necessary

Directions

  1. Put the Oreos in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped.
  2. Add the vanilla, chocolate and sugar and pulse until a sand-like consistency is reached.
  3. Pour into a large mixing bowl.
  4. Using your hands, mold the Oreo mixture into golf ball sized balls. If the mixture isn't sticky enough, add water until it is.
  5. Serve immediately or refrigerate.
